I am always being asked many questions about our lifestyle, and there are plenty more, the questions come with the territory and many people are just curious! So here are a few..
"Can you really be traded at anytime"
"Do you know where will you live/play next season?"
"He really can't take days off?"
"Can you really be traded at anytime"
I typically have all the same ones! I would love to plan my future, dream it all up and solidify it in glue. Unfortunately, (& fortunately) I just can't! and well neither can you, or anyone! I learned this lesson quickly. I couldn't wait to grow my clientele at the salon after moving to Washington DC with my now husband, find the perfect little row home, he would play for the Caps and I would do hair. We would get married grow a family and just be perfect. HA! Yea right! I knew there was always a chance we could get traded, sent to the minor leagues or sign somewhere else. When we were traded from the Washington Capitals to the Toronto Maple Leafs in February 2016, it still struck me as a surprise. Most players can get traded at anytime, to any team. There are some exceptions to that rule, some players have "No Trade Clauses" that have little written in rules, for example which teams they can get traded to or when they can be traded. The only time teams aren't allowed to make a trade are from the trade deadline, which is typically around March 1st, to the end of the season April-June. With that said, some players + families never experience a trade! And some experience many, we now have 3 under our belt, 4 NHL teams total.
"Do you know where will you live/play next season?"
For now I do! Connor signed a 2 year contract with the New Jersey Devils. We are beyond excited to be a part of a great organization, and team!
"He really can't take days off?"
The days off questions is probably my favorite, so many of my friends ask if Connor can take a day off to come to their wedding if it is during the season. the answer is no. Per the CBA players get 1 day a week off, and in unfortunate circumstances can take off for personal days. A typical practice day is somewhere in between 8am-3pm, and game days are basically all day, pre-game skate, nap, game. There are 82 games in the regular season, 41 home and 41 away. We move for the season in late August/September and can leave anywhere from April to June depending on playoffs.
Do you have any questions you'd like me to write about? Let me know!
Are you excited to check out local places when you move somewhere new? Like local restaurants and new places to explore?
Where has been your favourite place to live so far
I’ve always been curious about how players and their families find places to live. Are there resources for families to find all the things they need (ie schools, drs, good neighbourhoods, etc)?
